Brian Henderson of Quincy, MA started the DogBoston site in April 2006, with the intention of sharing some of the dog knowledge that Brian and his wife Liz had gathered since owning their two dogs, Emma (black lab) and Tula (Sharpei mix). Living in a dog friendly neighborhood by Wollaston Beach, it’s a place where they remember each others dog’s names better than they remember their owner’s names.
Since the site started, it has blossomed into a full service “things to do with your dog” website for Boston-area dog owners and has surfaced several other passionate dog owners who contribute their time and ideas towards helping the site. Special thanks here to Judy in Somerville and her Italian greyhound Gianni Versace. Since the site started, she’s helped Brian gather pictures for dog places/parks and has made multiple corrections to data contained within the site.
Then, Jo Jacques (owner of WiggleBums in Salem) graciously agreed to become the DogBoston inhouse expert - Ask Jo - and has continued to write articles month by month on the hot dog topics including “Selecting a Breeder” and the provocative but factual “Alternatives to the Dog Whisperer” which shows her capabilities as a dog friendly trainer. A special thanks to her is in order.
In addition, the site could not be where it is today without the help of Mark Henderson, brother of Brian, who is a talented web designer and backend site administrator. Without his help, the forums would be there, the DogBoston submission forms wouldn’t have worked right, and the next phases of DogBoston would not be possible. Thanks to Mark.
Also I’d like to say thanks to Jan Dumas, who graces our presence with warm thoughtful articles related to pet-care and her own personal experiences. Definitely check out her articles on Ticks, as well as her article on adopting her dog Byron.
Until then, stay tuned, and please tell one other dog owner you know about this site.
