A Dog is Not a Toy Ad Campaign

February 13th, 2008 · 4 Comments

A very powerful and serious ad campaign is being rolled out from Barcelona based Altarriba a foundation like the US-based MSPCA.

On the other hand, PETA, who is so sensationalist that people don’t ever take them seriously, is using the Westminster Dog Show as a way to boost the impact of their latest ridiculous campaign. They are taking on Dog Show people and they liken dog breeders to Klu Klux Klan members, as an effort to raise awareness of the rising levels of shelter dogs in the country. Good point, but a terrible style of execution as usual for PETA.

Here’s a link to the actual ad, for those who don’t read Spanish very well… these are ‘anti-abandonment’ ads:

Hey, I just found this site. Well done and as a dog owning/loving Bostonian I’m truly excited to see people talking about our furry friends. In regards to PETA, who has an amazing PR team and has snookered many a person and celebrity into supporting their causes, some of which are worthy and many of which are horrifying and disgusting. As a dog lover you’ll be amazed when you read http://petakillsanimals.com. Even if you cut out the opinion chatter and look at the public documents, including court papers you’ll be amazed. In the grand scheme of things PETA makes Michael Vick look like a saint.

A campaign is certainly needed due to the misery of all the abandoned dogs and cats that find their way to a shelter and are often end up dead.
I agree though that the execution maybe is too extreme but maybe if we shock people it would help them realize the sad truth.
