After our dog Tula (picture) had an MPLO surgery (knee repair for torn ACL) costing well into the thousands, we sought out pet insurance just in case her other leg goes out, or if our black lab Emma had any problems. The surgery has worked wonders by the way, but it certainly took a bite out of our budget.
Things to keep in mind as you shop.
1. Pre-existing conditions can hinder your ability to get reimbursement/coverage.
2. There are a few providers out there, but VPI seems to be the most well-known and reputable.
3. You may pay $20-60 a month depending on the coverage you get, but to us this is a whole lot better than one giant bill.
