Great site!
There is a good park for dogs in Arlington called Menotomy Rocks Park. People usually don’t leash their dogs there. I don’t think it’s a requirement either.

Monique… thanks. Just be careful about the dog leash uncertainty. Some people who have it out for dogs and dog people are just waiting for a scratch from a jumpy offleashed dog… but otherwise, thanks for the kind words and the link to the park.

Just a heads up… there is officially a leash law at Menotomy Rocks. Dogs there are often unleashed (I’ve taken mine there unleashed), but it’s not legals and users should be aware that they could be ticketed and fined for doing so.

I go there just about every day with my basset hound. I’d venture a guess that about 80% of dogs are off-leash there, but you should definitely keep your leash handy, and keep an eye out for the animal control officer. He does drive by the park with some regularity, and will sometimes walk in to check things out. That said, it’s rare that he’ll venture into the woods, and so pay most attention if your dog is off leash in the open fields around the pond. (That’s where he can see you from the road.)
It’s a great park, and there are many friendly dogs and people alike there!

No sooner did I write my comment last night, than the dog officer showed up in the woods at Menotomy today! Ugh.
My friend and I were given a long lecture about having our dogs off-leash, and then released without citations.

The dog officer called my house and… get this… threatened legal action. Be aware Arlington has a rabidly enforced leash law.
