Gary Paulsen’s book Winterdance, which is about his experience training his dogs for the Iditarod, tells of a trust a musher must develop with his/her dogs. Even though my journey with Titus to Boston from San Diego didn’t consist of nine other dogs or me standing atop a sled, while he pulled me (he did double as a pillow for me, during nights of watching movies, in my parent’s living room), it did consist of building trust.
