“A 20-year-old man pleaded not guilty today in Lowell District Court for allegedly cutting the ears of a pit bull puppy on Saturday.
Luis Negron of Lowell was charged with felony animal cruelty, which includes mutilation, and carries a maximum penalty of 5 years in state prison, as well as one count of cropping the ear of a dog, which carries a $250 fine. He was ordered released after he posted $500 bail. Negron faces a maximum penalty of one year in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both.
The puppy was taken into the custody of the Lowell animal control office and is being treated at a local shelter.”
