I doubt this dog is too concerned about his flowing girth, however the FDA feels strongly enough about helping to slim down a growing population of overweight dogs, that they have approved the world’s first obesity drug aimed at plump pooches.
Veterinarians generally define a dog that weighs 20 percent more than its ideal weight as obese. Surveys have found that approximately 5 percent of dogs in the United States are obese, and another 20-30 percent are overweight.

Oh, poor thing in the picture. Bassets are very prone to back trouble, and even if that’s not bothering this fellow (?), he must have a very hard time getting around. Sad to see a dog so overweight as this.
