Fort Dodge Animal Health, a division of Wyeth Corporation, is being asked by the FDA to recall ProHeart 6 - a twice-a-year heartworm medication for dogs.
The problems suffered by dogs include sudden lethargy, uncontrolled bleeding, vomiting, diarrhea, heart and liver problems and such nervous system abnormalities as seizures.
Time to switch to an alternative like Heartguard. Here’s a few other choices. Don’t forget to print out internet prices and have your vet match the price! Most of them would rather accept a lower price than authorize you to order online indefinitely.

Just a note: If your dog goes to popular dog parks or to day care regularly, you may want to look into using Interceptor — the medication used with Interceptor also protects against many of the normal worms and parasites found in these locations (Heartgard doesn’t).
