Background:
Due to the pure anonymity of Craigslist.org, many advocates believe there are people taking advantage of this, by not being honest about their intentions. Some people (so it’s been said) are picking up the freely advertised dogs and then reselling them later.
Problem:
1. What happens between the time the dog is picked up by one of these resellers? The dog could be damaged for life. 2. Allowing this type of reselling seems unnatural and just kinda dirty.
Solution:
Here’s a suggestion I read on Craigslist the other night.
“If you have an animal that needs to be rehomed, mention a small rehoming fee will apply. This should be enough to scare off the dog resellers…”
There’s other ways to do this, but this seems to be a good step in the right direction.
Any other ideas?

You are so right! Due to the pure anonymity of Craigslist, many people have taken it upon themselves to force their agendas upon each of us. There are forums, email lists and groups of people that don’t like breeders, high adoption fees, spam, porn among other subjects that join together and flag ads that don’t fit into the agenda.
It’s insane.
The Pets section is one of the hardest hit areas because of the strong feelings this subject invokes. There *Are* resellers in each community and there *Are* flaggers who flag high adoption fees in each community so the catch 22 is the animal needing a home.
Craig Newmark himself has been involved to a much high than necessary degree in this debate on his site. It invokes feelings of pure hatred, anomosity and malicious intent upon the violators of the ‘agendas’.
The best thing someone can do is spay/neuter the animal because a reseller sees that as not worth as much and the Craigslist pet flaggers like to think their flagging fingers alone will stop pet overpopulation problems.
Asking for references such as vets, employers or landlords is another true blue way to know if someone is serious about your pet.
Good Luck to you and be sure to pass this information to someone who needs it. It can be very frustrating for someone in the pets community.

The issue with the above comment is this …
Knuckles(AA) is a KNOWN harasser of anyone who disagrees with her and her friend Woody (SK) who WAS a HUGE Pet/Animal flagger and has often reverted back just get personal information.
If your agenda doesn’t match her own AGENDA on the pet issues, you get harassed, called foul names, have your personal information put out on CL and spam/porn sent to you.
She’s knowningly emailed people looking for ‘information’ on flagging, only to get her hands on their private email and when she gets your private email, she’ll post it out along with your name and if she’s able to locate it, your address and your work information if that is available.
Yes, the CL Pet or Puppy Wars has been and IS a HUGE issue, but with People like Knuckles, Woody, Tweety, and PT and several other handles, You put your own life and that of your family at risk of being harassed, stalked, and even threatened with physical harm should you decide to ‘Police Craigslist’ the way Craig Newmark had intended.

All should be aware of the fact that “Staffie” has been investigated by the FBI and the Federal Investigators at GSA, for her online hate activities (”hate crimes”) abuse of government computer access. Additionally, “Staffie”s (Kerri B) is on the Anti-Defamation Leagues “watch list” for her “neo-nazi” posts and activities within the Nazi recreation movement.

hey Staffie you forgot about Floppy. We Antiflaggers step in AFTER you flaggers harass, email and “file away” personal informatin on good people trying to find homes for their pets. You also forgot to mention that some and we can name at least 4 pet flaggers are BREEDERS themselves. NOT to mention they are also puppy flippers, or rescue groups that beg posters to give them their pet so they can inturn make a profit by selling the dog. Funny how we never see flaggers begging for kittens, because there is no money to be made. So, as long as flaggers stalk pet posters we ANTIFLAGGERS will be there. NUFF SAID

Craigslist has become basically unusable for many rescue’s & shelters nationwide. Its unfortunate that the flaggers have created an environment that hurts animals being rehomed more than anything.

CL already has the system set up that a small rehoming fee is ok, but those that have an agenda of what they consider an owner “selling” their pet, get angry at the owners making a profit off the pet, end up taking it out on the pet!
So there we have another slant on the catch 22
about the fees being asked for—if the fee is too low, it will hardly be a deterrent for some “flipper” being the real culprits making a buck off pets–if the fee is too high you end up having the ad flagged because they haven’t “justified” the fee they are asking for—
The real problem is the Terms of Use (TOU) of Craigslist. It has of course been updated here and there since CL’s inception, but right now, the real need is having the Pets section defined in an ABSOLUTE manner–not in the half hearted way–some info in the TOU, some info when you go to post an ad, some info in the FAQ, and my favorite, some info in the CL Flag Help Forum, that is not where you can readily find it, but they are there from years past, definition posts by Craig, Jim and other staff, some even contradicting other *help* posts, but NONE of it where the occasional user of craigslist can readily access it.
So they end up getting their ads flagged due to supposed *rules* that those who flag ads use to indiscriminately destroy lives of pets all over the United States, not even happy at flagging in their local communities, they spread out city by city, flagging ads that they determine are in *violation* of the rules of CL or in violation of their personal agendas-Posted Without Fee, Not Altered, Fee Too High,Doesnt Follow California Law(my *favorite*BS reason) No Vetting Info in AD, a so called by a staff member “crap ad”-no info at all, just call or email. You name it they have the *rule* to supposedly back them up–even when they have nothing to back up their agenda’s, they flag, flag, flag away!
Craigslist needs to get their act together and update their TOU to include that information they have stated in Flag Help that they consider a rule to follow if you use their service—when and if they ever update the TOU, they should make some formal statement that anything that wasn’t taken from flag help and put into the TOU should be ignored!
Now about the previous posts–everyone of you had to impose personal agenda’s when replying–the ONLY person who gave a response to the question posed here was KNUCKLES!
She did include some info about the “flagging forums” which some people may not think should have been mentioned, until you consider that those posting ads in there to be flagged do contribute to the problems we see for pets that need to be rehomed, and end up missing out on a real home they end up in a shelter— and there are those who flag the*competition*, or flag those free ads so they can be the only person asking about the pet, which will be sold by an animal *flipper* - however she did not name names, or speak rudely—she gave some really good ideas, and instead of hearing responses to her post, there were personal attacks–
Those attacks were inappropriate and had no business on someone elses website. It was disrespectful.
So I apologize at the length of this, and if the owner of this site disagrees with my little venting and ranting i gave as well as my opinion on how to help the pets—and to those I speak to here and there in the forums, please dont get angry, I was just upset to see these attacks when they weren’t necessary and gave a bad impression of yourselves, especially when a couple of you can be way better than this. *grins*
Peace and God Bless
