The Fight for Offleash Recreation Continues in Brookline, Cambridge, and Somerville.

November 30th, 2006 · 1 Comment

(edited Dec 1st) Winthrop Park in Brookline could be closing down due to complaints from the neighbors…

What should they do? (ARTICLE)

For starters, they should quickly turn to innovative activists in the area for suggestions.

Thomas Taylor is an alderman in Somerville who advocated for the city’s first dog park. He said what has made a big difference is the Somerville Dog Owners Group (www.somdog.com), an independent group that has rallied for off-leash spaces, even raising money to fund the projects.

The Cambridge and Somerville DOG’s (dog owners groups) have been extremely valuable in furthering the cause for their local dog community and other towns and cities can learn a lot from their work.

Helen from the Cambridge DOG and Michele from the Somerville DOG provide their insight based on their firsthand experience here in a great post from a couple weeks back.

Note that the article is about Winthrop Park, one of fourteen parks in Brookline, MA that participate in the GreenDog Program, not Winthrop, MA.
